Laura Burke has been appointed by Government to succeed Dr Mary Kelly as Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency. The appointment was announced today by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Mr Phil Hogan, T.D.
Laura Burke has been a Director of the EPA since 2004, initially serving as the Agency’s Director of Communications and Corporate Services and more recently as Director of the Office of Climate, Licensing, Research and Resource Use. Prior to joining the EPA, she worked in the private sector. She is a graduate chemical engineer of University College Dublin and holds an MSc from Trinity College, Dublin.

Director General of the EPA is a full time position, based at the EPA’s headquarters in Wexford, with an initial 7 year term of office.
In order to fill the vacancy, an independent selection committee was convened. Following an open recruitment competition, the selection committee considered all applications made and interviewed short-listed candidates prior to making its recommendations to Government.
