The Pye Homes development at Hanborough Gate, which is being built in partnership with Blenheim Estate Homes, features a series of environmental initiatives aimed at boosting the area’s biodiversity.
Located on the western side of Long Hanborough, the site features a selection of two, three and four bedroom homes.
A total of 169 properties will be built by the end 2021 of which 59 will be part of the affordable homes scheme and 25 will be retained by Blenheim Estate Homes for renting.
The development will incorporate a new doctors’ surgery and other local amenities include a dentist, pharmacy and Post Office.
There are also new permissive footpaths developed by Blenheim Estate which give access to the surrounding countryside and the wider estate.
The land on which Hanborough Gate is being built was originally used for arable farming and it is hoped the environmentally-friendly initiatives will encourage a wider range of flora and fauna.
“Arable land normally has very little biodiversity,” said Peter Newbold, Principal Ecologist at BSG Ecology.
“The new development has taken this area and added native planting of trees and scrub, whilst retaining the existing hedgerows.
“The sustainable drainage system on the south of the site has also added a much needed water resource to the area, which will have a positive impact on biodiversity.
“In addition the inclusion of the bat boxes and bird nest boxes will add roosting and nesting opportunities where there previously weren’t any,” he added.
Established in 1927, Kidlington-based PYE Homes firm has a recognised tradition of building high quality new homes locally in Oxfordshire and further afield.
As well as Hanborough Gate they are also working with Blenheim Estate Homes to develop 300 properties at Park View, east of Woodstock.
Property is an integral part of Blenheim’s 10-year development programme that includes tripling the Estate’s contribution to the local economy and creating a £45m endowment fund to ensure the long-term future of the World Heritage Site.
