The Clean Energy Ministerial’s Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI), along with other like-minded organisations, has launched the World EV Cities and Ecosystems web portal to accelerate the global push toward cleaner, electrified transportation.
This first-of-its-kind web portal serves as a central hub, connecting policy makers and practitioners to help them leverage existing resources, share electric vehicle (EV) best practices, and increase collaboration to support continued progress in cities around the world. Through the portal, city leaders and city planners can access information about local policies, incentives, programs, and customer behaviors, as well as share both quantitative and qualitative information about their experiences.
The web portal draws on case studies from the EV City Casebook, which EVI released at the Third Clean Energy Ministerial in April 2012, and contains information on 16 cities and regions across 9 countries and 3 continents. These pioneering cities and regions together account for roughly 30% of EVs on the road to date. In the future, the web portal will expand to include other cities and regions.
Both the web portal and the EV City Casebook are the result of collaboration under the Global Electric Vehicle Insight Exchange (EVX), a partnership between leading global EV readiness initiatives including EVI; Rocky Mountain Institute’s Project Get Ready; ; Task 18 of the International Energy Agency’s Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Implementing Agreement; and the University of California, Davis Plug-in Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Research Center. EVX pools resources and expertise from these international networks of cities and regions to identify the best ways to capture vehicle electrification’s benefits, such as energy security, economic development, and environmental health.
