Nualight scoops Global Cleantech 100 listing

The Irish clean-tech company Nualight, which specialises in LED lighting for food retail, has made it onto the Global Cleantech 100, a list that pinpoints companies that are likely to make a market impact in the next five to 10 years.

The list is compiled by the Cleantech Group and aims to highlight the most innovative companies in the clean-tech space in the world right now.

To create the list, the Cleantech Group said it was based on the collective opinion of hundreds of individuals within the wider global clean-tech innovation community. Contributors were asked which 100 of today’s private clean-tech companies would be the most likely to make the most significant market impact over the coming five to 10 years.

Nualight is based in Cork and is led by Dr Liam Kelly, a LED-lighting specialist. The company is backed by Climate Change Capital and is also funded by ESB Novus Modus, 4th Level Ventures and the Quinn retail family.

Kelly said today the listing was “welcome recognition” for Nualight’s expansion drive.

“We welcome this acknowledgement from the global clean-tech innovation community and look forward to delivering real benefits to our food retail customers in terms of optimising store performance and enhancing customer experience,” he said.

In July, Nualight revealed its LED lighting colour technology called Vivace that brings out the natural colours in food when it is on display in supermarkets. This year it also launched its Zest system, a new linear accent lighting solution for food retail.

Nualight also struck a US$100m deal with Hussman, the global manufacturer of refrigerated display merchandisers and refrigeration systems, in March of this year. Via the collaboration, the two companies will be aiming to develop and provide visual merchandising solutions to food retailers.

Last year, Nualight acquired the Dutch LED lighting technology firm Lumaluce for just under €11m.
