The next lecture in the RDS Energy Lecture Series is ‘Energy Efficiency in the Home’. Speakers will include Josephine Maguire, Programme Manager – Retrofit, SEAI, and Joe Durkan, Programme Manager – Smart Metering and Smart Grid, SEAI. The National Retrofit Programme will play a major role in achieving our national and European energy saving targets. The average house consumes about 14,000 units of gas per year or 2,000 litres of oil; through energy efficiency and simple insulation measures this figure can be reduce by 50%.
In 2010 alone, over 70,000 homes were upgraded through the retrofit programme, which in turn has helped support more than 5,000 Irish jobs. To date the Government has provided incentives of Eur70m which will result in energy savings worth Eur250m over the lifetime of the retrofitted houses.
Josephine Maguire has over ten years experience working with SEAI and in 2010 she took over the role of Programme Manager of the newly introduced National Retrofit Programme. Joe Durkan is a mechanical engineer and a qualified building energy rating (BER) assessor. Since joining SEAI in 2005 he has been involved in the Greener Homes Scheme, the House of Tomorrow programme and Building Energy Rating.
Energy Efficiency in the Home will take place at 7pm on Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the RDS Minerva Suite. Admission is free but advance booking is required.
