Linde Selected For Mercedes-Benz Hydrogen World Tour

Gases and engineering specialist Linde Group has been selected by Mercedes-Benz as the exclusive hydrogen partner for the F-Cell World Drive. This endurance trip will send three B-Class F-Cell hydrogen-powered fuel-cell cars right around the world.

Over the entire tour, Linde will be the sole supplier of mobile hydrogen (H2) for the zero-emissions F-Cell models. The trip will take each of the cars around 30,000 kilometres across four continents and 14 countries in 125 days.

“We are excited at the opportunity to partner with Mercedes-Benz and help showcase the capabilities of hydrogen-powered cars,” said Professor Dr Wolfgang Reitzle, chief executive of Linde. “Many years of experience in hydrogen technologies make us the partner of choice for both stationary and mobile refuelling facilities – even in the most challenging environments. Through projects such as the F-Cell World Drive, we are helping to accelerate the widespread establishment of a hydrogen infrastructure.”

Specially for the tour, Linde and Mercedes-Benz co-developed a new mobile 700-bar refuelling unit based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. This houses all the technology required to compress and fuel H2 on the move. Key design criteria included 700-bar refuelling pressure and a compact footprint for easy transport by air. Linde also developed the entire H2 supply and logistics concept for the 400 or so refuelling stops planned around the globe, remote regions included. Linde will supply around 18,000 normal cubic metres of hydrogen in total for the tour.

Looking beyond the F-Cell World Drive, Daimler and Linde are working closely together on other projects to secure hydrogen supplies over the coming years as the number of fuel-cell cars on the roads increases. Both companies have been actively involved in the ‘H2 Mobility’ initiative since 2009 for instance. Many big players, including companies from the oil and utilities sectors, have teamed up to build a nationwide H2 infrastructure in Germany under the umbrella of ‘H2 Mobility’.

Linde is a leading supplier of hydrogen fuelling systems. The company has already equipped more than 70 stations in 15 countries and has thus supported well over 200,000 successful H2 refuelling stops worldwide.

one thing I don’t like about Hydrogen is the fact it will never be as cheap for transport as battery ev’s, and that simply is because it takes a lot of energy to make it and Governments will slap the same amount of taxes on it as petrol and diesel. The E.U has a disgraceful amount of tax on fuel and the burden on it’s citizens is immense, and the same level of taxes cannot be applied to electricity!

One fantastic way to make Hydrogen in my opinion, is to use Nuclear power using Thorium in L.F.T.R reactors. These are incredibly safer than current reactors using Uranium. And produce less than 1% of the waste because they are very efficient. And the waste lasts 300 years and not 10,000 like the waste from current reactors.

1 Tonne of Thorium is equal to 200 tonnes of Uranium or 3.5 million tonnes of coal!

If the U.S had to continue research into these reactors we would not have had a Chernobyl, or 3 Mile Island, or Windscale or now
Fukushima. Instead they chose uranium because the waste allowed them to make Nuclear weapons so the Nuclear industry moved in that direction and it would be very expensive for them to now make the fuel for Thorium reactors. It can be done!

These L.F.T.R reactors can also burn up old waste from existing stock piles, and nuclear weapons decommissioning.

There is thousands of years supply of it and it’s in many more places globally than Uranium. There is a lot more of Thorium than Uranium.

L.F.T.R reactors can be much smaller and cheaper to build, and they can NEVER reach melt down, it’s impossible by the very design of the reactor itself.

Reactors can be made as small as 1 MW.

We don’t have a energy crisis, and if the oil runs out so what? the answer has been staring us in the face for decades!

Ireland could install several of these reactors and be almost 100% energy independent and not import foreign oil or burn our precious peat bogs! We could have a very cheap supply of energy and it would also create many jobs in the process! And of course cheaper fuel for cars because so many people are spending 400 Euros or more a month on fuel that absolutely NEED their car to drive to work! So many people drive long distance in this country, because most of the work is in Dublin! Such high cost of fuel is crippling many families as they struggle to pay bills!

But the very mention of Nuclear in Ireland will have people marching on the streets without any idea of the technology itself only the scare stories!

Remember Thorium is many times safer than uranium and L.F.T.R reactors can NEVER melt down! And they can simply and safely turned off without consequence when required!

  5. The subsequent time I learn a blog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as much as this one. I mean, I know it was my choice to learn, however I really thought youd have one thing interesting to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could possibly fix if you werent too busy in search of attention. Little of topic but must see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUQBKwBcORE

  6. I’m extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one these days..

  7. Really a great article and its easy to see that you didnt just copy it!

  8. Thank you for this article. I’d also like to say that it can often be hard when you’re
in school and simply starting out to initiate a long credit rating.
There are many scholars who are just simply trying to survive and have a long or positive credit history can often be a difficult factor to have.
