The SuperValu TidyTowns competition for 2013 has been officially launched by Phil Hogan, TD, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, and Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu, main sponsor of the competition. Last year over 850 cities, towns and villages entered the competition.
Minister Hogan comments: “TidyTowns has been improving the environment in which we live for over 50 years and has helped to foster Ireland’s image abroad. My Department has also been working in partnership with Volunteer Ireland to grow voluntary effort; their website www.volunteer.ie matches members of the public interested in volunteering with voluntary opportunities in their own areas. I would ask TidyTowns groups to take advantage of this initiative.”
Martin Kelleher says: “TidyTowns is a perfect partnership for SuperValu as we are both embedded in communities acrossIrelandand TidyTowns committees, similar to our independent retailers, work hard to develop and energise the towns and villages in which they live. We are delighted to be working closely with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government to ensure its on-going success.”
As well as the main competition there are also ten Special Competitions. The closing date for receipt of entries for all of this year’s competitions is 23rd May 2013.
