US Under-Secretary for Energy, Kristina Johnson, will address a joint sitting of the Oireachtas Joint Committees on Climate Change and Energy Security and Communications, Energy and Natural Resources today, Thursday, 8th July, at 3pm.
As the leading industrial power in the world, the United States is the largest energy consumer in terms of total use. Its energy policy, in terms of cutting emissions and securing supply, will set an example for the rest of the world to follow.
The administration of Barack Obama has proposed an aggressive energy policy reform, including the need for a reduction of CO2 emissions, with a cap and trade program, which could help encourage more clean renewable, sustainable energy development.
Today’s meeting will provide Dr Johnson with the opportunity to outline in detail US energy policy and provide an insight into the development of new energy technologies in the US and efforts to build a new green economy there. It will also offer Members of the Oireachtas Committee an opportunity to raise any issues they have on US energy policy reform.”
