Ballymun Waste Initiative Turns Old Clothes into New Fashion

Four designers and professional fashion technicians at the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun, Dublin, are turning old clothing and fabrics into new high-end fashion under the Rediscover Fashion label. The team are showcasing their unique and highly wearable Summer 2011 collection at a fashion show on Thursday 21st April in the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, hosted by RTE’s Brendan Courtney.

All clothes are tailored and hand finished to the very highest standards. Rediscover Fashion is a Ballymun Regeneration initiative that aims to encourage individuals to rediscover the value of waste and create local employment.

“Rediscover Fashion is about establishing a mindset shift, raising the bar on green products and establishing a new generation of eco-conscious, socially aware consumers,” says Sarah Miller, manager of the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun.

All garments in the Summer 2011 collection have been redesigned from donated garments of clothing and textiles, dresses, trousers, skirts etc. The Rediscover Fashion label includes an Executive, Ready to Wear, Evening and Bridal line. This year’s Summer 2011 collection also introduces Swimwear and Menswear for the first time.

Tickets for the fashion show are €10 each, available from rediscoverfashion@rediscoverycentre.ie or by calling 01-842 7848. For further information on the Rediscovery Centre in Ballymun visit www.rediscoverycentre.ie.
