The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has announced that their CEO, Jim Gannon, will shortly take up a new position with the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities. Jim has been with SEAI for more than three years and over that time has overseen a period of considerable growth, change and development across the organisation.
Thanking Jim for his leadership and commitment, the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton T.D. said;
“Jim has provided excellent leadership to SEAI during his period as CEO, as the organisation played a central role in helping Irish homes and businesses make the transition to more sustainable energy systems. I’d like to wish him the very best for his new role, where he will no doubt continue to play an important role in shaping Ireland’s energy sector. His custodianship of SEAI has left the organisation well placed to play a key role in stepping up Ireland’s response to the climate challenge.”
Speaking today, Chair of SEAI Julie O’Neill said;
“The goal of transitioning the Irish economy to more sustainable sources of energy is increasingly important and great strides have been made by SEAI under Jim’s leadership. During his period in office, the Government committed €450 million to capital supports administered through SEAI. SEAI’s capital budget in 2019 is more than double what it was in 2015 and the organisation has progressed areas of strategic importance to our clean energy future, including renewable heat for businesses, more efficient homes and the move to electric vehicles.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Jim for his leadership and service over this period. SEAI plays a pivotal role in Ireland’s effort to tackle climate change and helping homeowners, businesses and communities in meeting the challenges ahead.”
O’Neill concluded by saying;
“The Board of SEAI has appointed William Walsh, its Chief Operations Officer as Interim Chief Executive Officer until a new CEO is appointed. We will begin the process of appointing a new CEO in the coming weeks through the Public Appointments Service and look forward to developing and growing further in the years ahead.”
