Leading “green” energy provider Energia has signed a major new dual fuel deal with LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional network, to supply the company’s new EMEA HQ at Wilton Place in Dublin with over 6 gigawatt hours (GWh) of “green” electricity as well as 3 GWh of gas. The deal was announced on EU Energy Day (November 16th), which this year focuses on Clean Energy Solutions for the Buildings of the Future.
Energia is among Ireland’s leading providers of sustainable green energy and 25% of Ireland’s wind power is provided through Energia to homes and businesses. Energia has invested a total of over €650m developing windfarms and its windfarm portfolio now generates over 1,000MWs of green energy.
LinkedIn’s EMEA HQ is a leading example of an environmentally sustainable, energy efficient construction that produces a low carbon footprint. Certified to LEED Gold standard, the building includes environmentally friendly design features such as a rainwater harvesting system, 250 bicycle parking spaces, and weather station controlled automatic blinds.
Alison Curran, Key Account Manager, Energia commented: “We’re delighted to be adding a prestigious business like LinkedIn to our CV of almost 60,000 Irish business energy customers. We are proud to be one of the biggest suppliers of renewable energy to Irish businesses, making a significant contribution to the country’s efforts to cut greenhouse gas levels.”
“We also support our business customers through innovative energy programmes like Energia’s ‘Cash for Kilowatts’ scheme that provides grant funding to companies for energy efficiency projects. It means that any company carrying out an energy efficiency project can qualify for grant funding based on the amount of energy they save..”
Eileen Slamon, Workplace Manager at LinkedIn Ireland, added: “When we were planning the design of our new EMEA HQ, sustainability was one of the key elements of the brief. We incorporated a variety of features into the structure itself to minimise its environmental impact, but we also wanted to extend that to the energy we use. We are delighted to be able to announce on European Energy day that our partnership with Energia will ensure that the energy we do use is as environmentally responsible as possible.”
