The EPA welcomed the publication on the 15th of March, by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), of the results of the Quarterly National Household Survey module on Household Environmental Behaviours.
Commenting on the results Mr. Dara Lynott, Director, EPA Office of Environmental Sustainability said: “This publication provides valuable and comprehensive information on people’s attitudes and behaviours regarding waste management, energy use and purchasing behaviour. It will inform EPA work across a number of areas, such as waste prevention, hazardous waste management planning, air quality and statistical reporting obligations. The publication will be useful reference material for anyone looking for information on the behaviours of Irish households regarding environmental issues.”
Notes
The module, which was part of the CSO’s Quarterly National Household Survey in Quarter 2 2014, asked households questions on environmental awareness, energy use and waste management practices. The questions were drafted by the CSO in conjunction with other agencies and departments, including the EPA. One of the key reasons for EPA’s involvement in the survey was to address knowledge and data gaps, particularly in household waste management practices, fuel use and energy sources.
The publication provides not only a national total but also a breakdown of the responses by region, urban/rural area, dwelling type, household composition, construction date, nature of occupancy, nationality and household working status.
