Energia brings “green energy” to Aurivo in 36GW supply deal

Aurivo has signed a major new “green energy” deal with competitive energy supplier Energia.

The new energy deal will see Energia provide 36 gigawatts of 100% renewable electricity to the co-ops network of retail stores, marts, processing facilities and offices in the west of Ireland over the next two years.

Aurivo Co-operative Society Limited is an innovative multipurpose agricultural co-operative with business interests in dairy ingredients, consumer foods, agri stores, animal feed milling and livestock marts.

Energia has a long standing commitment to sustainability and is one of the leading providers of renewable energy to homes and businesses across Ireland. The company currently supplies over 795MWs of green power and thanks to a number of wind farms currently in development, this will soon increase to 1,000MWs. Energia Group remains one of the most significant contributors to the achievement of Ireland’s renewable targets and one of the largest investors in the renewable sector.

Energia has also provided energy efficiency training to Aurivo.

Marty Dervin, Aurivo, commented: “As a fully verified member of Origin Green, Aurivo is dedicated to the sustainability charter. We have already made great strides in reducing carbon emissions and energy, waste and water across our sites. With this 100% renewable energy deal, Aurivo is continuing to reduce our environmental impact.”

Commenting on the deal, John King, Energia said: “We are delighted to win the business of Aurivo. It’s a significant endorsement of the great value that Energia can offer Irish businesses switching energy provider.” “We also support businesses through innovative energy programmes like Energia’s ‘Cash for Kilowatts’ scheme that provides grant funding to companies for energy efficiency projects. It means that any company carrying out an energy efficiency project can qualify for grant funding based on the amount of energy they save. This scheme is open to all businesses, whether or not they are customers of Energia.

As well as benefitting from the generous grants, businesses will also make very significant ongoing savings through the energy efficiency projects. For example:

  • Lighting: LED and high efficiency lighting can typically reduce your lighting costs by up to 75%
  • Heating: a new boiler or heating controls can save over 25% of your annual fuel costs
  • Refrigeration: new systems can reduce your costs by up to 30%

Energia has a 26% market share of the Irish business electricity and gas market supplying the energy needs of over 60,000 business customers. In addition to renewable assets, the company also operates a 750MW gas fired power station in north Dublin.
