Dawn Meats recently attended the McDonald’s Worldwide Convention in Orlando, Florida in the US, where it was recognised at the Best of Sustainable Supply (BoSS) awards as the global winner in the Economics category and a finalist in the Water Use category.
More than 600 entries were submitted, with Dawn Meats earning a place alongside 49 other projects.
Dawn Meats supplies beef products to a number of markets in the McDonald’s system in Europe and has been a system supplier for more than 25 years.
“Sustainable practices are core to the Dawn Meats business culture. We believe that we have a social and environmental obligation, combined with a business interest, to proactively reduce our emissions, minimise our carbon footprint, conserve natural resources and ensure sustainable practices in our operations,” said Dawn Meats CEO Niall Browne.
“Our focus in recent times has been to assist agricultural projects where knowledge sharing and implementation of best practice in animal health and welfare and grassland management have been key to success. We have also introduced quality-based premia payments for cows from certified farms and have promoted responsible use of our natural resources to ensure our production systems are both economically and environmentally sustainable.
“We are honored and greatly appreciate the global recognition by McDonald’s and we will continue to challenge one another in developing innovative ideas and solutions with our suppliers and customers.”
