The Green Healthcare Programme has produced a Case Study on the Waste Minimisation Programme [pdf, 2.65MB] implemented by Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.

This Case Study outlines the positive measures implemented in the ordering and provision of food, reduction in general landfill waste and healthcare risk waste including:

  • Tight control on the meals provided to wards
  • Revision of canteen services to prevent over-preparation of food and provide meals out-of-hours
  • Training and awareness among staff on healthcare waste classification procedures
  • Increased recycling throughout the hospital

The hospital has also undertaken a number of projects to reduce the consumption of water and energy, with significant savings having been achieved.
