Brian Conville has been awarded the Ecocem-sponsored Best Phase 6 Bricklaying Student in this year’s Dublin Institute of Technology’s College of Engineering and the Built Environment Awards. Brian is currently the National Skills Competition Bricklaying Champion, and has been training in DIT for the World Skills Competition, where he will travel and compete in Leipzig this July. This is the first time Ecocem, a specialist producer of eco-friendly cement and low carbon concrete, has sponsored this DIT award.
The award was presented by Susan McGarry, Technical Development Manager for Ecocem Next Generation Cement. Susan graduated from DIT School of Engineering two years ago with an Honours degree in Civil Engineering. She began working with Ecocem through their pioneering graduate training program.
In 2011, the company created the Ecocem Graduate Training Scheme in an attempt to try to provide experience and employment to some of the talented graduates in Ireland within this sector. So far, the Ecocem Graduate Training Scheme has helped four college graduates with no previous experience in the industry to obtain full time employment with Ecocem or similar companies.
