NI Water is embarking on a £2 million project to upgrade a number of wastewater pumping stations and deliver environmental improvements across Northern Ireland. This latest NI Water investment will see the installation of modern pumping and electrical equipment to increase the efficiency of the pumping stations to help reduce out-of-sewer flooding and ultimately the number of call outs by NI Water operatives.
The first phase of the work, which will see 30 pumping stations refurbished in the North Down area by March 2014, has been awarded to local contracting firm, Graham Construction. Other local companies set to benefit from the contract are Ballymena-based Shaw Automation, who are manufacturing all of the bespoke electrical panels for the pumping stations, and the Mallusk-based division of Xylem, who are providing the new pumps.
Peter Ferguson, NI Water Project Manager, comments: “This is yet another example of NI Water investing to deliver a robust wastewater infrastructure whilst striving to support local industry.”
