Ford will be lining up its new all-electric Focus to be a pace car at the start of the upcoming NASCAR Nationwide Series in Richmond on 27 April. It will apparently be the first-ever electric vehicle to be a pace car at a NASCAR race.
The Focus Electric will be performing all pace care duties at Richmond International Raceway.
Production of the Focus Electric began in December at Ford’s Michigan assembly plant in Wayne, Michigan.
Ford said it would be ramping up is Focus Electric retail production in the first half of this year for dealership availability in California, New York and New Jersey. By the end of the year, the automaker said the vehicle would be available in 19 markets across the US.
And as part of its huge marketing push in the US, Ford is giving Facebook users the chance to take a ‘virtual’ road trip in the new Focus Electric before the car becomes available in most US markets.
