Minister Fergus O’Dowd, TD, Minister of State, Department of Environment, Community & Local Government will deliver a keynote speech at a brand new conference for Ireland’s water market.
Water Ireland 2012 will take place at Chartered Accountants House in central Dublin on 25 April and is organised by WWT Events.
Ireland is at a critical point in its water reform strategy. Developing a single water company from a dissipated industry is a monumental challenge, as is meeting compliance with EU regulation like the Water Framework Directive.
Investing in infrastructure and metering are also at the top of a congested priority list. However, the current economic climate poses significant challenges in realising this vision.
WWT has carried out extensive research has indicated that now is the right time to launch a new platform which will stimulate knowledge sharing amongst the stakeholders of Ireland’s water industry.
The aim of Water Ireland 2012 is to help government, economic and environmental regulators, utilities and consumer bodies, utilities providers, financial executives, local authorities and independent consultants and experts to implement the next stage of Ireland’s water future with the best possible economic and environmental outcomes.
Expertise
A keynote speech from Regina Finn, UK regulator Ofwat’s chief executive, will be followed by a panel discussion on how a national water structure can be implemented, with senior representatives from the Commission for Energy Regulation, Bord na Móna, Bord Gáis and Dublin City Council.
Speakers from across Ireland, north and south of the border, mainland UK and Europe will share their expertise on a range of topics which include regulation, meeting compliance, routes to asset management best practice, customer engagement and the role of metering.
Richard Ackroyd chief executive of public utility Scottish Water will reveal the lessons learned from Scotland’s experiences, while economic challenges will be addressed by the European Investment Bank’s head of water, Hugh Goldsmith.
