EfW climbs up corporate on-site renewables agenda

Large corporate firms are planning to invest in energy-from-waste as an enterprise-wide renewables strategy ahead of other options such as solar or wind power, according to new research.
Energy-from-waste (EfW) came out top in a table of on-site renewable energy initiatives that companies have committed cash to during 2012 in a survey from the Aldersgate Group.

In terms of the technology being adopted across a corporate’s entire enterprise, EfW was firmly favoured (8%) followed by solar (5%), combined heat and power (5%), wind (4%), biomass (4%) and hydro (4%).

EfW also scored highly across multiple sites (14%) although solar (30%) and combined heat and power (31%) were more popular in this respect.

While the report stated that few companies saw renewable energy as part of an enterprise-wide strategy, the findings will be encouraging news for the EfW sector with many in this field reporting a rise in commercial waste arisings.
